Nepal has one of the lowest literacy rates (75% male, 57% female) in the world and for over 7 years Himalayan Hands has been funding an education for children whose family cannot afford one. We focus primarily on educating young girls as families will prioritize boys first and seldom is there enough money to send their girls to school.
We believe that a good education is fundamental to helping the children of Nepal reach a higher standard of living and reduce their odds of living in poverty.
The cost of a full year of education in a good school is $350.00 per child. We have many donors who sponsor a child each year and we are beginning to see some of the girls graduate from secondary school and move on to a higher education!
